I believe that in therapy, the focus should first be on learning to gain acceptance of ourselves. I feel that our beliefs about ourselves are paramount because they shape the beliefs that we have about other people and in turn, the rest of our environment. After we identify the beliefs about ourselves that need to be adjusted, we can work on how to improve those beliefs, which will improve our interactions with others and the way that we see the world. I look forward to helping others with that process. View 5 Photos Another focal point of therapy is to examine the way that we develop our identities based on our perceptions of where we come from and what we have been through in life. Everyone has the opportunity to improve their sense of self by improving how they develop their respective identity. I am a real down to Earth person and my motto is that you should always entertain the possibility that you might be wrong - which I also practice daily. Although it isn't something that comes naturally to most, its something that, once you practice, can change your relationships and your life for the better.

As you look for a therapist you might feel very vulnerable, desperate, or fed up with your struggles. I want to help you, whatever your motivations are and however ready you are to change, whether you’re wondering if there’s a problem, you feel lost and confused, or you’re ready to change and you want to start today. At the beginning you might need a safe, accepting presence to help you view yourself clearly and with kindness. You might need someone to help you break free of painful patterns, sort out your feelings to make a tough decision, or make changes you keep trying to make but your efforts never seem to stick. If you know you are suffering but cannot explain it, I will help you contact and express the heart of the matter. If you know what you need to do but are stuck, I will help you make peace with your obstacles and truly feel the desire to do something different. I help clients welcome their feelings and embrace new stories about who they are. Whether you are feeling down and defeated, unlovable, worthless, controlled by anger or fear or whatever inner struggles you face, I can help you gain perspective and see new possibilities. I can guide you in finding compassion for yourself, connecting with what truly matters to you, and taking steps toward living as the person you want to be.

I work with those who feel disconnected from themselves and the world around them. Stress, trauma, or other difficulties can leave us feeling splintered and fragmented. We will welcome you back into your mind, body, and spirit. I am identity affirming; I offer a space where you can be seen and heard without reservation. I work with individuals who are exploring all facets of their identity across the spectrum of human experience. I specialize in supporting those who are post-religious and finding it difficult to navigate that journey. The foundation of my approach is acceptance. I don't believe anything is "wrong" with you, there is nothing about you that is shameful. I believe that we can work together to integrate that vision into how you view yourself. You are enough, you are worthy, and I see that!

My counseling philosophy involves allowing a client to be themselves and working to meet them "wherever they may be on their own self discovery journey". I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years and have tremendous experience working with several populations. I have learned that individuals have the innate capacity to grow and become their best selves, given an environment in which they can do so. Asking for help to do this can be very difficult. Regardless of the obstacles in your life, you have the capacity to move forward. I am a LCPC in Boise, Idaho and have experience working with individuals, couples, addictions, past trauma, anxiety, refugees, grief and loss, mood disorders, depression, gender issues, and much more. My therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Solution Focused Therapy, as well as several other approaches. If you are self-searching or addressing issues causing you struggles, consider improving your self-growth through counseling in a safe, accepting, and therapeutic environment.

I acknowledge your courage and commitment in this moment as you search for a therapist. In my experience, it's easy to get stuck inside of our suffering and difficult to find room to function, much less to thrive. And yet, here you are. Take a moment to appreciate the room here--the space between the difficult stuff preceding this moment and the step you're about to take. Imagine if life had a little more room in each moment--more flexibility, meaning, and vitality? What if therapy was not about getting rid of the difficult stuff but about living a deeply meaningful life? View 9 Photos Whether it's the weight of depression, the paralysis of anxiety, or the inertia around a difficult life transition, I welcome the opportunity to help you move more flexibly towards what matters. *While not a primary focus, "symptom reduction" is often a side effect of connecting more meaningfully with life. What if there is enough room in this moment to take the next step towards the life you want with an e-mail or phone call? What if there is room to thrive? I look forward to hearing from you.
